Is it the zip? Zip break issues

Is the zip to blame when it breaks?

I decided to talk zips because it seems to be a common problem.

It happened a few times in a row that our customers (ladies) came to the shop with a bust zip in a dress or the zip that they could not close. They were all were blaming the zip.

They asked for stronger zip. I have to be honest here – most of the time it is not the zip! There is no such a thing as “stronger zip”.

Zips have different numbers, the number decides how big is the strand or zip’s teeth. There are numbers from 3 up. But the fabric determines what is the highest number we can use.

Nowadays manufacturers put an invisible zip (no 6) into the dresses quite often – the 6 is a really strong one so if the zip breaksdown on you or you can’t close the zip the truth is that the dress’s fit is too small.

But it is not end of the world. Sometimes as little as 1 inch alteration in your waist, bust or hips (or everywhere!) will make a big difference. We can easily alter that in from the seams or darts. If you need more than an inch or two we can discuss different options – we can always find a solution.

I know sometimes is hard to say that the dress is too tight when there is a queue behind you. Ask the dressmaker if you can try on the dress and show her. Go to the fitting room and speak with her.

When the dress is too tight a new zip won’t solve your problem. The zip will break-down again.
